Bug Busting

Dear Parents,

We have detected some incidences of head lice in classes over the last week. While teachers have requested parents from those classes to check their child’s head, we would like to initiate a whole school approach to eradicating these bugs.

I am attaching a video here that has been recommended by the Public Health Nurse linked to this school. We ask all parents to watch it and to check their child’s heads following the recommended procedure from the video, on the following days: (Two of these days are weekdays so we will be asking teachers not to give homework on these days to give parents a chance to check).

Day 1: (No homework recommended)

Day 2:

Day 3: (No homework recommended)

Day 4:

We ask that all parents complete the checks on these days, even when no bugs are found on previous check days.

It is also vital that your child’s hair is tied up at all times during school. This includes boys who wear their hair long, (where the hair is long enough to be tied back.) This helps greatly in preventing the spread of head lice.

Kind Regards,

Claire Mannix (Health & Safety Staff Representative, Scoil Mhuire, Howth.)
